El saludo al sol es una secuencia dinámica de posturas, que hay que ejecutar una detrás de otra de forma sincronizada con la respiración.
Practicar el saludo al sol cada día (sobretodo nada más despertar) nos ayuda a empezar el día con la energía al máximo 😀
Es Saludo al sol, en sánscrito Surya Namaskara (Surya significa «sol» mientras que Namaskara es «saludar»), es sin duda la práctica del Yoga más conocida en el mundo. En realidad existen diferentes formas de hacerlo (aquí te voy a enseñar el saludo al sol del Ashtanga Yoga que es un poco más dinámico con respecto al saludo al sol de Hatha Yoga). Ya sabes: me gusta sudar jejeje
Surya Namaskara se considera como una secuencia completa ya que trabaja todos los músculos del cuerpo. Se trata de una serie de 11 posiciones que son ejecutadas de forma fluída y dinámica, sincronizando la respiración con el movimiento del cuerpo.
¿Cuándo hay que practicarlo?
El saludo al sol, como el mismo nombre indica, está pensado para hacerse nada más empezar el día.
Praticarlo cada mañana es como saludar de forma simbólica el sol (bien el sol «real», pero sobretodo el sol que vive dentro de nosotros, nuestra energía vital).
Si lo practicas cada día, 3/6 repeticiones pueden ser suficientes… todo depende de tu grado de preparación física y del tiempo que quieres dedicar el Yoga.
El saludo al sol, entendido como serie de asanas, es excelente también como calentamiento anterior a cualquier práctica deportiva.
Antes de salir a correr, ir en bici, hacer surf, trekking, etc… practicar el saludo al sol te ayuda en la preparación de cuerpo y mente para tu actividad deportiva. Y si además practicas un deporte asimétrico (por ej. tenis) te puede ayudar a compensar el desequilibrio que hay entre la parte derecha e izquierda del cuerpo.
Aunque lo mejor sea hacerlo por la mañana, el Surya Namaskara te viene bien en cuaquier otro momento del día, sobretodo si te sientes muy cansado o estresado.
Sé perfectamente que cuando estás cansado no tienes ganas de ponerte encima de la esterilla para practicar, pero te aseguro que si no lo haces vas a caer en la rutina (mala) que se autoalimenta del «estoy cansado -> no hago nada -> estoy más cansado -> hago menos todavía, etc…»
La próxima vez que te sientas sin energías, intenta hacer aunque sea 3/4 saludos al sol. Solo son 5 minutos y te puedo asegurar que después te vas a sentir mucho mejor.
¿Por qué es bueno?
La concentración que pones sobre la respiración y el movimiento mientras ejecutas el saludo al sol, hace que la secuencia sea una meditación en movimiento que te alivia el estrés y la depresión.

Contraindicaciones
Se desaconseja practicar el Surya Namaskara durante el ciclo menstrual, o por lo menos durante los primeros 2 días. Depende en realidad mucho de cada persona: si tu ciclo es muy leve, no pasa nada por practicar obviamente.
Si estás embarazada, puedes practicar el saludo al sol hasta el ercer/quinto mes de embarazo. Una vez hayas tenido el bebé, puedes retomar tu práctica escuchando siempre lo que te dice tu cuerpo a nivel de energía, salud, etc…
Es desaconsejable que lo practiquen personas que hayan tenido un infarto, que sufren de presión alta o que tengan una hernia.
¿Con qué edad se puede practicar?

Para la práctica del Saludo al Sol, la edad no tiene casi importancia.
Hay muchas personas con más de 60-70 años que lo siguen practicando sin ningún problema, y es más: parecen bastante más jóvenes de sus coetáneos.
¿Cómo se practica?
Y por fin te presento el saludo al sol que se practica en yoga como el Ashtanga o Iyengar. Son 11 posiciones. Si nunca lo has hecho puede parecer complejo, pero es la primera impresión nada más 😀
Como ves son 11 asanas distintas que se van repitiendo una detrás de otra: imagina el saludo al sol como un reloj y observa el dibujo aquí abajo. Si clicas en la imagen, la verás más grande.
La práctica es como un reloj: de la posición 1 sigue hasta volver otra vez a la posición 1.
Si miras con atención verás que las posturas 2,3,4 se repiten, del revés, en la 8,9,10.
Las posturas 5,6 y 7, juntan las demás.
Y este es el saludo al sol de tipo A. Como ves es muy sencillo y haciéndolo unas diez vces verás que ya te lo vas a saber de memoria :).
La secuencia del saludo al sol se tiene que hacer sincronizando la respiración con el movimiento y se puede practicar con ritmos distintos en función del objetivo que se está persiguiendo:
- Normal: significa que las posturas se ejecutan siguiendo el ritmo natural de nuestra respiración. Hazlo así si lo practicas a diario para tu «mantenimiento».
- Rápido: en esta caso practicas el saludo al sol a un ritmo superior al de tu respiración natural, moviéndote más rapidamente. Hazlo así si quieres entrenar tu resistencia y fuerza.
- Lento: en este caso practicas el saludo al sol respirando lentamente y profundamente. Tienes que llevar tu atención a la ejecución de cada movimiento para que sea lo más fluido y controlado posible. Te lo aconsejo si quieres mejorar la percepción y el control sobre tu cuerpo y rebajar el estrés.
